the batman and bat signal MMS641 review

The dark knight, the world’s greatest detective, Batman. Hot Toys new collectible figure, The Batman and Bat Signal based on the characters appearance in “The Batman” played by Robert Pattinson is here and it’s awesome.

In this mini review I’ll go over what I think of the figure, the accessories, the head sculpt and more. So first up, the source material. Not sure what to say about The Batman that hasn’t already been said, I loved it! Don’t get me wrong I’m a big fan of the Bale and Nolan Batman and even Affleck and Snyder to and extent but it was so refreshing to see what Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson did with the caped crusader, he was finally the worlds greatest detective.

The Figure

Short answer it’s great. Long answer, Hot Toys has been doing newly designed bodies recently and it shows, the body is fantastic and personally I’ve never minded the padding that they add but I know that can be a sticking point for some people. The padding in this figure is minimal and that helps a lot with the range of motion. I’m sure most of you reading this have been deciding between the Hot Toys and the INART version for this figure, while I think the INART version is slightly better interns of the Headsculpt and some minor differences in the suit I personally don’t think it’s a big enough difference for the price gap. And that’s coming from someone who thinks Hot Toys are getting out of hand with prices.

If you're in the UK Forbidden Planet or Zavvi are good options to buy from.

If you're from the US or Europe try Sideshow.

The Accessories

Lots! This is what we all want from Hot Toys, lots of accessories and ones that we’ll actually use. Some of them can be quite fiddly, I’m looking at you grappling guns but most are great, my personal favourite is the flare gun which comes both collapsed and extended. And of course we couldn’t talk about the accessories without talking about the Bat Signal. It’s big as it should be. Overall the look of it is great, and I’m always wary of Hot Toys giving us a horrible plastic clam shell version of what we actually want and although it’s on the light (pun intended) side it does feel quality and the paint application is great. The problem with it is the light it’s self, it’s a white light when it should be yellow, The INART one does this and I personally don’t find it a problem but I know it might be an annoyance to others. Lastly with the accessories is the base. It can have a few different looks with the stairs and the normal base with it. For me the steps with the normal base under is my favourite.

The Headsculpt

Wow what a sculpt, first off the masked sculpt, it comes with three interchangeable mouth plates and the most stoic one for me looks the best. As with most Hot Toys the open mouth or teeth showing sculpts look slightly off (anyone remember the Ant-Man one a few years ago?). One thing that I absolutely love with the masked sculpts is the detail on the mask. It is covered in scratches, marks and general wear and tear and it all adds to the figure. As always with Hot Toys the paint application is spot on and the separate rolling eyes is a welcomed addition to all Hot Toys going forward. The unmasked sculpt is good, not great, for me it’s a little too pouty but again the paint application is incredible. The interchange magnetic hair is a nice touch but I don’t think it hits the way they intended and also leaves a visible seam between the front and back parts of the hair sculpt.

Overall - 8.3/10

Great figure and worth the price, the Bat Signal is a bonus and if you are a Batman fan then it’s defiantly worth picking up.

Headsculpt - 9/10

Great, definitely prefer the masked one.

Accessories - 9/10

Not much more it could come with.

The Figure and Articulation - 7/10

Not the best range of motion but the body looks good.
